CHRISTMAS MEETING 2007

CHRISTMAS SHOPPING FOR THE KIDS
What does $16,700.00 buy?On Sunday, December 16th, 2007 ninety two volunteers embarked on a task to help 124 kids have a better Christmas. The kids range from infant to sixteen years of age. School buses from the Onamia and Isle Elementary Schools departed at 7:30 am. Principals Larry Jallen and Mike Conner and Social Worker, Margaret Hitzemann have been coordinating this event with the W.I.S.H. Lions for several months, as they have done for the past four years. The Bus Drivers volunteer their time and some of the staff members also help shop. Every child had a list of needs, which included items many children take for granted. This year we purchased snow pants, winter jackets, gloves, mittens, boots, shoes, tennis shoes, sweatshirts, pajamas, underwear, socks, a variety of hygenine items, disposable diapers, and at least one toy not to exceed twenty dollars. This year we purchased 82 Winter Jackets, 169 pairs of pants & jeans, 502 pairs of socks, 283 sets of underwear. The most popular items requested by the kids were Hoodies, belts, gloves, boots and tennis shoes. The money is raised primarily at our Golf Fundraiser in June, which is scheduled this year for June 22, 2008, so we hope you will save that date The Super Target in Rogers gives us a 10% discount,(meaning 10% more clothes for the kids) along with pop, hotdogs, and popcorn for all the kids and volunteers. They assign special check out lines and staff.
Jennifer Sundt has helped with the shopping for kids for the past couple of years as has Sarah Paaverud. Jennifer and her Mom Sue Rondeau work on organizing a group of volunteers to help shop. This year her Mom recruited 29 volunteers and Jennifer recruited 31 volunteers. They are not Lions, they just care about the kids and have strong shopping backgrounds.
